In a surprise turn of events, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is reportedly set to do a cameo in Rajinikanth’s latest movie Jailer, which is helmed by Doctor and Beast director Nelson.

Mohanlal, who has wrapped up shooting for an ad and is currently in Kochi to complete a few pending commitments, is expected to fly to Chennai and join the team for a two-day shoot this weekend.

If the reports are true, this will be the first onscreen collaboration between the two South superstars. Earlier, the team of the film had also confirmed that Kannada star Shiva Rajkumar was doing a cameo.

The movie, which is touted to be a black comedy-thriller, also has Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Malayalam actor Vinayakan in pivotal roles. Jailer is currently set for an April 14 release. The movie also marks Mohanlal’s first Tamil movie since Suriya’s Kaappaan in 2019.

Incidentally, the actor is also rumoured to team up with Kamal Haasan in his upcoming Lijo Jose Pellissery film Malaikottai Vaaliban. As per reports, the team are in talks with the Vikram star to play an extended cameo in the big budget Malayalam movie, which is set to go on floors in Rajasthan later this month. Kamal has been approached to essay the role of Mohanlal’s father in the film, which will have the latter play a wrestler. Vidyut Jammwal and Radhika Apte are the other big names being rumoured for the film, which is scripted by PS Rafeeque.

Mohanlal has currently wrapped up the Tunisia and Morocco portions of Drishyam director Jeethu Joseph’s Ram duology. He also has a few portions to be shot in Delhi, UK and Israel for the action thriller, which also has Trisha, Adil Hussain and Indrajith Sukumaran as part of the cast. Mohanlal’s next release will be Shaji Kailas’ Alone, which is set to hit theatres on January 26.
