Rajisha Vijayan reveals she was not the first choice for Mari Selvaraj’s Bison | Exclusive

Masthishka Maranam actress Rajisha Vijayan, who played the sister of Dhruv Vikram’s character Kittan in the Tamil movie, tells OTTplay that Bison is one of the most important films in her career.

Malayalam actress Rajisha Vijayan is winning much appreciation for her latest film Masthishka Maranam, in what some critics call a once-in-a-lifetime role for her. The noted actress has also proved her mettle in Tamil films, including director Mari Selvaraj’s movie Bison. But in an exclusive interview with OTTplay, Rajish Vijayan revealed that she was not the first choice to play the character and that many actresses before her did not want to do the sister role.

Why Rajisha Vijayan said yes to Bison

Bison Kaalamaadan is a critically acclaimed 2025 Tamil movie directed by Mari Selvaraj and starring actor Dhruv Vikram in the lead role. Rajisha, who played Raaji, the sister of Dhruv’s character Kittan in the movie, tells OTTplay that Bison is one of the most important films in her career. This was her second film with Mari Selvaraj after Karnan in 2021.

“Working again with Mari Selvaraj sir was amazing. It is a great thing when the director repeats you. It is like one of the biggest awards when the director thinks you are worthy of working with him again. Very happy that he called me again and gave me the character,” she remarked.

Rajisha went on to say that she was not the first choice for the role.

“Every time a director is going to cast somebody, he or she will have a face in their mind. I was not the first choice to play the character. He had gone to a lot of other girls, they did not want to play the sister character. He called me and I jumped right away because I wanted to work with him again,” the Malayalam actress recounted.

Bison revolves around a young Kabaddi player who strives for excellence even while battling caste prejudices. A hard-hitting film, penned by Mari Selvaraj, Bison opened to positive reviews.

“It was a long journey. It was difficult for me, how the character had to be performed. But I am happy for the reception it got, both commercially and critically,” Rajisha added.

Malayalam acctors Lal, and Anupama Parameswaran are also part of the movie.
