After Bigg Boss 17, Ankita Lokhande is all set for her first project, Swatantra Veer Savarkar. With Randeep Hooda in the lead role, the film will star Pavitra Rishta actress as Vinayak Damodar Savarkar's wife Yamunabai Savarkar. But did you know that Randeep did not want to cast the actress earlier and said that she was 'too pretty' for her character?

Randeep Hooda, who will be seen as Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, the Indian politician, writer, and activist in the biopic has also directed the film. Recently, at a press conference, while speaking about the film and showering praises on the actor, Ankita Lokhande revealed that Hooda did a lot of research and was clear about what he wanted in the film.

She quoted Randeep as saying, “I don’t think I want you in the film,” to which she responded, “Why?” “He was like, ‘You are too pretty for the character (Yamunabai Savarkar).’ I was like, ‘Please don’t say that,’” said Ankita, adding, “He (Randeep) had done so much research, he was so sure about what he wanted in the film, he knew everything about what she (Yamunabai Savarkar) was like. She was the successful woman behind a successful man (Veer Savarkar).”

The film will showcase the narrative of Veer Savarkar on how he fought against the British Raj and the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi. The trailer of the film highlighted the key politicians and revolutionaries like Bal Gangadhar, Bhagat Singh, Madanlal Dhingra, and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The makers dubbed the film as the legendary yet neglected story of Swatantya Veer Savarkar - a visionary, and a firebrand.

Subhash Chandra Bose’s grandnephew Chandra Kumar Bose reacts to Swatantrya Veer Savarkar

Earlier, Chandra Kumar Bose, Netaji's grandnephew reacted to the trailer and requested the makers to not link Subhash Chandra Bose's name with Savarkar. He wrote: "@RandeepHooda – appreciate your making a film on ‘Savarkar’, but its important to project the true personality! Please refrain from linking ‘Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s’ name with Savarkar. Netaji was an inclusive secular leader & patriot of patriots."

Besides Randeep and Ankita, the film also features Amit Sial. Swatantra Veer Savarkar is scheduled to be released in theatres on March 22 in Hindi and Marathi.
