Known for his powerhouse performances, acclaimed actor Randeep Hooda is all set for the release of his new crime drama series, Inspector Avinash which will start streaming on Jio Cinema from May 18. Helmed by Neeraj Pathak, the plot is inspired by a real-life ‘super cop’ in Uttar Pradesh, named Avinash Mishra. Speaking about his character in a recent interview, Highway actor said that “his story is nothing short of modern-day Robinhood”. The trailer of the series was released yesterday.

Written and directed by Neerraj Pathak, the upcoming series also features Urvashi Rautela, Amit Sial, Abhimanyu Singh, Shalin Bhanot, Freddy Daruwala, Rahul Mittra, and Adhyayan Suman in pivotal roles. The narrative chronicles a string of crimes in the state in 1997, focussing on the police inspector’s struggle to overcome the hurdles while trying to nab the head of a weapon cartel. It is said that the action thriller series compares the unlawful activities in UP to that in Mexico.

“As an actor, I am always drawn towards real-life stories of unsung heroes. It is important to tell stories rooted in India, stories that depict the struggles and triumphs of our people. Avinash’s story is nothing short of a real-life, modern-day Robinhood, fighting against crime and standing up for what’s right. I am truly honoured to be a part of this heroic story. While I love playing cop roles, this role was different. I spent a lot of time with Avinashji to get the nuances right,” Randeep told IANS. The actor is known for films like Laal Rang Jannat 2, Monsoon Wedding and Sarbjit.
