Ravi Teja, after two disasters in 2022 - Khiladi and Ramarao On Duty, returned to winning ways with consecutive hits - Dhamaka and Waltair Veerayya. His next release is the action thriller Ravanasura, directed by Sudheer Varma. Anu Emmanuel, Megha Akash, Faria Abdullah, Daksha Nagarkar, Pujita Ponnada, Sushanth and Sriram essay crucial roles in the film that releases on April 7.

The third single from the film Veyyinokka Jillala Varaku, sung by Anurag Kulkarni is a remix of the popular number of the same name from Venkatesh’s 1991 release Surya IPS. Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry wrote the lyrics for the song originally sung by the legendary S P Balasubrahmanyam. Harshavardhan Rameshwar gives the iconic number a trendy upgrade and infuses more energy into the composition.

The theme in both the numbers are similar. The male lead is after his romantic interest and will do anything to woo her. Take a deeper look at the lyrics ‘Veyyinnokka Jillaala Varaku..Vintunnamu Nee Keertine..Mullokaala Ye Moola Vinna..Nee Andhaala Sankeerthane’ and it’s hard to not be charmed by Sirivennela’s effort to add class to a regular formula number in a masala film.

The orchestration is certainly impactful in the newer version and Anurag Kulkarni does a fine job at giving his own spin to the rendition without trying to imbibe SPB too much. While Harshavardhan’s take on the Surya IPS number gets you grooving, it misses the simplistic charm of the earlier song. However, it’s imperative to outgrow the ‘old is gold’ adage to appreciate this version too.

The Ravanasura number unfolds at a police training academy and has Ravi Teja performing several ‘Govinda-styled’ energetic moves, choreographed by Sekhar master, donning colourful costumes and shades.Rao Ramesh, Murali Sharma, Sampath Raj, Nitin Mehta (Akhanda fame), Satya, Jaya Prakash form the supporting cast of the film. Vijay Kartik Kannan cranks the camera and Navin Nooli is the editor.
