RHTDM: R Madhavan and Dia Mirza’s musical hit to be made into an animated film

Producer Vashu Bhagnani is leading the project, which also includes other iconic films like Coolie No.1 and F.A.L.T.U

Just a couple of days ago, there was sort of a mini Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (RHTDM) reunion at the 23rd International Indian Film Academy Awards, when co-stars R Madhavan and Dia Mirza posed for the camera. Regarded as a cult classic, the romantic drama film - which also starred Saif Ali Khan - was also a musical hit. Cut to the latest, RHTDM will now be made into an animated film.

Producer Vashu Bhagnani, who recently ventured into the world of animation with DB Films and Animation, will be leading the project. And it’s not just RHTDM other popular films like the Govinda and Karisma Kapoor starrer comedy masala film Coolie No.1 and Remo D’Souza’s F.A.L.T.U are also getting an animated makeover.

The production house is currently developing new as well as legacy IPs as animation films. “These films are iconic and hold a strong recall value with audiences. DB Films & Animation recognises the popularity and cultural significance of these films, aiming to leverage their story acceptance and create captivating animated adaptations to reach global audiences. This diverse slate of projects promises to offer a wide range of stories and genres to entertain audiences around the world,” they stated.

Madhavan bagged the ‘Best Director’ trophy for his film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect at IIFA 2023. Congratulating the actor, Dia shared an adorable picture of the two on Instagram, twinning in black. “Has it really been 22 years. @actormaddy..congratulations on your award! Keep shining”, she wrote.

Released in 2001, RHTDM marked Dia’s acting debut and Madhavan’s first Bollywood film. Written and directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, the movie was a remake of Gautham’s Tamil film Minnale which also starred Madhavan, alongside Abbas and Reema Sen.
