In a strange stroke of fate, veteran Kannada actor-producer Dwarakish passed away on the same date, albeit three years later, as his wife Ambuja. Dwarakish suffered a heart attack in the early hours of April 16 and succumbed in his sleep. According to the late actor’s son Yogish, Dwarakish had been battling a mild case of chest congestion, a result of consuming cold drinks and being in air-conditioned surroundings owing to the heat in Bengaluru, but was alright otherwise. In fact, a health check only days ago did not throw up anything major.

However, late at night on April 15, Dwarakish complained of stomach issues, which continued through the night, until early morning on April 16, when he finally began to feel tired. He had a glass of coffee and retired to his room, telling Yogish to wake him up two hours later. That was not to be, as Yogish later discovered that his father was no more. He had suffered a heart attack in his sleep at his residence in Electronic City.

Since news of Dwarakish’s passing came out, the Kannada film industry has closed as a sign of respect.
