Rohit Roy on life after Swabhimaan: ‘I should have focussed more on my craft’

Rohit Roy played Rishabh Malhotra in Swabhimaan

Gearing up for his stint in the latest season Khatron Ke Khiladi Rohit Bose Roy seems to be quite upbeat about being part of the stunt-based show, hosted by filmmaker Rohit Shetty. Known for work in films like Kaabil, Plan and Shootout At Lokhandwala, the actor shot to fame in the 1990s as Rishabh Malhotra in Mahesh Bhatt-directed soap opera Swabhimaan that aired in Doordarshan, which also starred Kitu Gidwani, Abhimanyu Singh, Anju Mahendru, Deepak Parashar and Manoj Bajpayee.

Looking back at his journey after Swabhimaan Rohit said he didn’t know what he was doing for a while. “It feels like the first decade went in a flash when I was doing television, because right after Swabhimaan, everything I did didn’t turn gold. I really didn’t know what I was doing,” he told IANS.

But despite that he said he didn’t regret anything. “Maybe, I should have. Because, then my filmography would have been even better. I have more lows than ups, but still I am here and I am also considered one of the formidable actors. Everytime I talk about ‘I failed to become a superstar’, most people say that ‘You should be happy with the success you’ve got’, and that’s true. In hindsight, who lasts for 30 years without a godfather, without a single person from the industry and zero support,” the actor elaborated.

However, Rohit also feels that he should have focussed more on his craft. “I am happy how my journey has turned out. But in retrospect, quite honestly, if I had to look back in the first decade I would’ve been a little bit focussed than just counting my luck. Would’ve been a little bit more focussed on my craft. But it’s okay, better late than never,” he further said.

Cut to Khatron Ke Khiladi Rohit - who calls himself an ‘adventure junkie’ - said the aim behind joining the show is to have unique experiences. “There are certain things and experiences in life that money can’t buy, and this is one of the experiences. I want to go there, have fun, enjoy myself and do stunts, which otherwise I can’t do anywhere. Even in films, doing an aerial stunt is very rare, unless you are Akshay Kumar. These are the things that you can experience once in a lifetime,” he told PTI in an earlier interview. Apart from Swabhimaan, the actor is also remembered for his performance in serials like Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand and Viraasat.
