The highly anticipated Golmaal 5 has officially begun shooting in Mumbai, bringing back one of Bollywood’s most beloved comedy franchises, where Rohit Shetty is capturing scenes with the main cast. While the franchise has always been a fan favourite, this version is building extra excitement with the confirmed addition of Akshay Kumar, promising plenty of new laughs and chaos.
With the inclusion of Akshay to the Golmaal franchise, the narrative promises to become a hilarious, “Tom and Jerry”-style rivalry with Ajay Devgn’s character, Gopal. This is a major casting milestone, as it marks the first time the two superstars are coming together for a full-fledged comedy, stepping away from their signature high-octane action roles in the Cop Universe.
The video also shows the return of the beloved original gang, including Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu, and Shreyas Talpade. A nostalgic highlight for many fans is the return of Sharman Joshi, who is rejoining the franchise nearly 20 years after the first film.
Sharing the video on his birthday, Rohit wrote on Instagram, "20 years ago, the first Golmaal was released, a film that changed my life. The credit goes to you, my audience. Over the past 20 years, we have entertained you, and yes, sometimes disappointed you, but we have always been honest in our work. So now, once again, my fabulous team and I are set on a journey to entertain you as we start filming G5. You have always loved and supported me. All we need is your blessings.
See you at the movies."
Meanwhile, Akshay also shared a note on his Instagram. He wished Rohit Shetty a happy birthday and expressed his excitement about joining the Golmaal 5 team, saying that the madness had gotten bigger and louder and that he was looking forward to the chaos beginning.
As per a Variety India report, Akshay Kumar has been roped in as the lead antagonist for Golmaal 5, pitting him against Ajay Devgn and the franchise’s ensemble cast.
In addition, South Indian actress Priyamani has come on board in a key role, while comedy veterans Johnny Lever and Sanjay Mishra are returning to reprise their beloved characters.
