Roopesh Shetty on Adhipatra: The fight for justice is most exciting about cop films

BBK9 winner and popular Tulu actor-director Roopesh Shetty’s next in Kannada, Adhipatra, has him playing a cop. The film releases on February 7

It’s been a while since Roopesh Shetty’s been seen by Kannada film audiences. Following his success on Bigg Boss Kannada OTT and, subsequently, Bigg Boss Kannada season 9, one of his earlier films, Mankubhai Foxy Rani, released, but went relatively unnoticed. Thereafter, Roopesh got busy with his second Tulu directorial Circus, which became a big hit and has just wrapped up his third, Jai as well. Amid all this, he’s done a Kannada film called Adhipatra, and is gearing up for his Tamil film debut with Sannidhanam, in which he will be seen with Yogi Babu.

Adhipatra, meanwhile, is releasing in theatres on February 7, and has the actor in cop mode, investigating a couple of murders, which, as per the trailer are referenced as the result of a tiger on the prowl. Who is this tiger? What is its connection to the place where the murders occur? What is its connection to the police officer played by Roopesh? This and more is central to the plot of the film directed by debutant Chayan Shetty.

Roopesh Shetty likes working with newbie directors

Roopesh says that he took up the project because he liked the story and the conviction and vision that Chayan had. Newcomers, he reckons, have a fire in them to prove their mettle to the world, which one does not find in an established filmmaker. Roopesh finds that energy of a newbie filmmaker more exciting, he says, adding that the fact that he was being offered a cop role was icing on the cake.

The actor-filmmaker loves the sense of power and the anticipation of justice being served in a cop movie and was keen to experience the same. Having said that, Roopesh adds that his character is not over-the-top heroic and is as realistic as can be.
