This weekend promises to be a treat for fans of Malayalam movies with as much as five big films releasing on both OTTs as well as theatres. From Mammootty’s Rorschach and Suresh Gopi’s Mei Hoom Moosa to Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Mukundan Unni Associates and Arjun Ashokan’s Thattassery Koottam, there’s plenty on offer for fans of different genres too.

Basil Joseph’s Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, which released in Kerala a fortnight ago, will also hit theatres in other states from November 11, while Asif Ali and Jeethu Joseph’s Kooman, which opened to largely positive reviews, is still running to packed houses in several theatres. Here’s a look at this week’s biggest Malayalam releases on OTTs and theatres.

Mukundan Unni Associates

Release platform: Theatre

The Abhinav Sunder Nayak directorial, which has Vineeth Sreenivasan, Tanvi Ram and Suraj Venjaramoodu in lead roles, is a dark comedy that has Vineeth essaying the titular role of a narcissistic lawyer who doesn’t care about how his actions towards success impacts anyone else.

Rorschach

Release platform: Disney+ Hotstar

The thriller, helmed by Nisam Basheer, has Mammootty essaying the role of a stranger named Luke Antony, who arrives at a police station stating that his pregnant wife has gone missing. During his search for her, his path crosses that with a dysfunctional family, a shrewd cop and a youngster, who doesn’t trust Luke at all.

Thattassery Koottam

Release platform: Theatre

Arjun Ashokan, Ganapathy and Priyamvada play the lead roles in this entertainer, which marks the directorial debut of actor Dileep’s brother Anoop. Scripted by Santosh Echikkanam, the movie revolves around a bunch of goldsmiths and is touted to be based on certain real-life events.

Varaal

Release platform: Sun NXT

Anoop Menon stars as a dark horse in this Kannan Thamarakkulam-directorial about a much-anticipated political race that has several politicians vying with each other to be the State’s next chief minister. How the traps set by each other in the final lap of the elections influence the people form the plot of this movie, which also has Sunny Wayne, Prakash Raj and Madhuri Braganza.

Mei Hoom Moosa

Release platform: ZEE5

Suresh Gopi plays lance naik Moosa Muhammed, who is presumed to be dead for the past 19 years. After he comes back to his village, he is disowned by his people. Moosa has to prove his identity, while also coming to terms with the changes in the past two decades. Can he accomplish this seemingly impossible task, especially when the authorities believe him to be someone else?
