Head Bush, the three-part biopic of Bengaluru’s first don, MP Jayaraj, who ruled over the city in the 70s and 80s, is the second production venture by Kannada actor Daali Dhananjaya. The actor, who celebrates his birthday today, plays Jayaraj in the film, which is based on the don’s former associate and reformed gangster-turned-media person Agni Sridhar’s book My Days in the Underworld.

The release of the first part of the film was announced for October 21, but rumours later suggested that it may get postponed, given that Challenging Star Darshan’s Kranti was also eyeing the same date. Today, on the occasion of Dhananjaya’s birthday, the team released the first single, the theme song of the film, Rowdigalu Naavu Rowdigalu, written by Sridhar, set to tune by Charanraj and sung by Sanjith Hegde, which embodies the spirit of Head Bush. The song confirmed that Head Bush part 1 will remain an October 21 release. The film will explore Jayaraj’s rise to prominence through the 60s and 70s, until his death, aged around 42, when he was shot by rival gangs led by the late Muthappa Rai.

Head Bush’s massive ensemble cast includes names like Paayal Rajput, Sruthi Hariharan, Balu Nagendra, Vasishta N Simha, Raghu Mukerjee, Loose Mada Yogi and V Ravichandran, among others. The film is the fifth based on an Agni Sridhar story, his earlier works including Aa Dinagalu, Kallara Santhe, Thamassu, which he directed as well and Edegarike. Another film based on real-life gangster Sunil Kumar, called Silent Sunila, is also in the works with director Duniya Soori.

Dhananjaya, who was gearing up for the release of Once Upon A Time in Jamaligudda, has apparently pushed the film ahead to focus only on the promotions and release of Head Bush. The actor’s debut production venture, Badava Rascal, had done well at the box office, which, many said was a direct result of his aggressive promotion strategy. Head Bush being a pan-India release, Dhananjaya is expected to step up promotions even more.
