Salaar teaser report: Prabhas, after Baahubali, finally gets the pan-Indian film he deserves

The star’s three releases after Baahubali 2 have opened well but failed to set the cash registers ringing

More than happiness, excitement or curiosity, what a true Prabhas fan experiences with the Salaar teaser is a sigh of relief. The wait has been long after all. It has taken a Kannada filmmaker to showcase the Baahubali star in an avatar that his fans were longing to see him in, post his pan-Indian stardom. With the power-packed teaser, the morning had begun well for the loyal fans of the star.

Prabhas, while playing reasonably safe with Sujeeth’s Saaho, took the experimental route with his other two pan-Indian releases - Radhe Shyam and Adipurush - and it’s hard to blame the star for it. He entrusted its’ responsibility in the hands of two relatively young filmmakers - Radha Krishna Kumar and Om Raut, though they struggled to utilise the strengths of Prabhas to the fullest.

Realising it’s humanly impossible for a director to please his fans after Baahubali, the star, excepting Saaho, tried to reinvent himself in distinct genres - a romance and a mythological drama. Moving past the failures, the timing of the Prashanth Neel-Prabhas starrer Salaar’s release in his pet-genre (action) for September 28, gives him just the right window to bounce back with a bang.

In the teaser, Prashanth Neel chooses the applied heroism model to please fans . While Prabhas is barely seen for a few seconds, the amount of anticipation that Tinu Anand generates for his arrival, makes his entry all the more special. The references to animals - quite a regular in Telugu cinema - and the Jurassic Park dialogue in English, to signify his arrival, is as heroic as it can get.

Does this have any connection between the filmmaker’s Ugramm or the KGF franchise? Those discussions can wait. For now, let’s savour the minute-long glimpse and how delectably the action segments are shot, with Ravi Basrur’s pulsating score enhancing its appeal. The film is produced by Hombale Films, also starring Shruti Haasan, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Sriya Reddy, Jagapathi Babu, Garuda Ram and others.
