Aamir Khan is yet to announce his next project after Laal Singh Chaddha but it looks like a sports drama is on his mind next. The actor had spoken about wanting to remake the Spanish film, Campeones, some time back. Previous reports had stated that Salman Khan might be a part of the movie but now it looks like Ranbir Kapoor might have been roped in to play the role.

According to a report on Bollywood Life, Salman heard the script of the film but suggested major changes. The team started revising the script but since it took many months, Salman moved ahead with his other commitments. Thus, it appears that the actor will no longer be associated with the project.

That is where Ranbir Kapoor comes in. Aamir approached Ranbir, who had announced a temporary retirement from films. The actor has not started working on any project since Animal shoot wrapped up. His last film Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar worked both in theatres and on OTT.

Ranbir heard the script of the film and has shown interest in the project, so far. If things work out, the actor might get finalized for the film.

Interestingly, Ranbir already has a sports biopic in his kitty. The actor will be seen portraying the role of Sourav Ganguly on-screen. Thus, if he accepts Aamir’s film, it would be his second sports drama.

Campeones (Champions in English) revolves around a basketball coach. RS Prasanna has come on board to direct the film. Whether the movie will retain basketball or take up another sport (probably soccer, which Ranbir already plays), remains to be seen.

Animal is helmed by Kabir Singh director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Ranbir is paired with Rashmika Mandanna for the first time through the film. The movie is scheduled to release on August 11.
