Sanjay Leela Bhansali-Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi will premiere at THIS film festival

The movie, also starring Ajay Devgn, will premiere in February.

Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn starrer film Gangubai Kathiawadi is set to make its world premiere soon. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial will be first released in February. It is going to be screened at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival.

The film will be screened as Berlinale Special, which is a platform dedicated to showcase exemplary cinema. Shot in the pandemic, Gangubai Kathiawadi is among one of the many films to be screened at the festival.

Stating that he takes pride and honour in showing the film, Sanjay said in a press statement, “Me and my team have given it all to make this dream possible.” The filmmaker shared once again that the project is really close to his heart.

Meanwhile, producer Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios shared that he believes in SLB and the filmmaker’s craft. He specially mentioned that Gangubai Kathiawadi is a story that will engage not only the Indian but also global audiences. “Alia has given a great performance and I am thankful to Ajay Devgn too for being a part of this project,” the producer added.

Carlo Chatrian of Berlin International Film Festival chipped in and said, “From the very beginning we were taken by the story of Gangubai, an exceptional woman dragged into exceptional circumstances.” He continued by stating that the Berlin Film Festival aims to be a special setting for Indian movies. The artistic director believes that Gangubai Kathiawadi is a film that ‘joins the usual craft in shaping camera movement and the choreography of bodies with a subject that is socially relevant, not only in India.’

While the movie will make its premiere in February, it is also slated to release in theatres in the same month. The much-awaited Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial will be released in Indian theatres on February 18, 2022.
