Director Karuna Kumar made a stellar debut in Telugu cinema with his hard-hitting rural drama Palasa 1978. The filmmaker later made Sridevi Soda Centre with Sudheer Babu and also helmed a web anthology Metro Kathalu. His next release is Kalapuram, a laughter riot, marketed as a 'pan South India film'. Jointly produced by R4 Entertainments and Zee Studios, the film stars Satyam Rajesh, Sanchitha Poonacha, Kaashima Rafi and Chitram Sreenu in key roles.

The makers of Kalapuram unveiled the first look of the film today. In the first look, the lead actors of the film come up with animated reactions while standing in front of a push cart with several carriages behind them. Satyam Rajesh wears a crown, holding a stand while both the women in the poster remain quite excited. An elderly man is holding a bag and another chap is counting money. What are these characters upto? The colourful first look has us curious.

Kalapuram is all set to hit theatres on August 26. The release timing, just a day after Vijay Deverakonda's Liger, is indeed interesting. History has always proved that small films enjoyed the advantage of drawing crowds to theatres even amidst biggies in the same week. One hopes the release strategy pays off. Rajani Talluri, associated with projects like Nela Ticket, Disco Raja and Kinnerasaani, is one of the film's producers. Mani Sharma composed the music score. The crew also comprises Prasad GK, and SB Raju Talari.

Karuna Kumar, known for his intense stories, has attempted something light-hearted and wacky and one can't wait to see this dimension of the storyteller. ZEE5 has acquired the film's post-streaming rights, while the satellite rights are with ZEE Telugu and ZEE Cinemalu. Zee Studios has associated with Allari Naresh's rural drama Itlu Maredumilli Prajeeneekam and joined hands with Nagarjuna for the Sankranti hit Bangarraju earlier this year.
