The new crime thriller series Scarpetta, starring Nicole Kidman, Jamie Lee Curtis, Simon Baker, Bobby Cannavale and Ariana DeBose in lead roles, has a streaming date. A trailer of the show developed by Liz Sarnoff dropped on February 11, 2026, introducing audiences to Dr Kay Scarpetta, a forensic pathologist trying to unmask a serial killer. The show is based on the book series by the same name by Patricia Cornwell, which has 29 titles and plenty of source material for the showrunners.

Scarpetta is coming to Amazon Prime Video with an 8-episode first season, all of which will be available on March 11, 2026. The streamer is not adopting the weekly drop format for the show. Season 1 will follow Dr Scarpetta (Nicole), as she returns to a job as chief medical officer “because she doesn’t like the way she left things the last time around”. But is it a second chance or is she looking at messing herself up again? That’s the question she faces as she investigates a bunch of murders that have the hallmarks of a serial killer at work.

Even more worrisome, the new case has way too many commonalities with her first ever as a forensic pathologist, which means that they are connected. Is it the same person? Will the case that made her also break her? Scarpetta follows Dr. Scarpetta's journey across two timelines—from her beginnings as a chief medical examiner in the late 1990s to her present-day return to her hometown, where she investigates a grisly murder.

Rosy McEwen stars as the younger Dr Scarpetta, while Amanda Righetti is the younger version of Jamie Lee’s Dorothy. Also on the cast are Sosie Bacon, Charlie B Foster, Janet Montgomery, Stephanie Faracy, Mike Vogel, among others.
