Seetimaarr is my biggest hit this decade, says director Sampath Nandi

This Vinayaka Chavithi season in the theatres across Telugu states had a surprise winner. Seetimaarr, the Kabaddi-based sports drama, starring Gopichand, Tamannaah Bhatia, trumped everyone's expectations and received terrific openings at single screens and theatres alike. Given the recent form of the film's director Sampath Nandi and actor Gopichand, not many would have given the film a chance, especially while competing with Nani's much anticipated Tuck Jagadish on Amazon Prime Video. Yet, that's the unpredictability of cinema for you. An overjoyed Sampath Nandi shared his excitement about Seetimaar's successful run with the media.

"The film is receiving positive responses everywhere it has released across India, be it Telugu states, Chennai or several parts of North India. I wanted to make a sports film with a commercial approach, touching upon aspects like women empowerment and family emotions. I thought Kabaddi enjoys immense mass appeal as a game. I was interested to blend it with a story that had adequate mass elements to entertain audiences. This is my biggest hit this decade and it makes me immensely happy that Gopichand's fans have enjoyed it a lot," he said.

Sampath Nandi feels OTT is a terrific platform to venture into unexplored territories, but also adds that a filmmaker must be clear if he's telling a story for OTT or theatre audiences, much in advance. Reportedly, the makers received many offers to release Seetimarr on OTT as well. The director conveyed his gratitude to the producers for believing in the film all along and that it deserved a theatrical audience. He has already commenced work on his project and informs that an announcement about the same can be expected shortly.
