Shamshera director Karan Malhotra reacts to Ranbir Kapoor’s look leaked online: Fans have waited for too long

Shamshera marks Ranbir Kapoor’s return to the big screen after almost four years. So suffice to say, fans were left delightfully surprised when the actor’s fierce first look from the film leaked online recently. Although the leak was unintentional, director Karan Malhotra tried to put a positive spin on it.

According to a report in Pinkvilla, the director spoke of how although the makers had wanted to start the campaign for the film by the middle of the next week, it seemed that fans just could not wait. Talking about how he did not ‘blame’ fans for the leak, Karan said “They have waited for too long”.

The filmmaker said that he understood how hard it must be for fans to contain their excitement, as Ranbir is returning to the big screen after almost 4 years. He added that he was ‘glad’ that the reactions to the actor’s first look were positive.

YRF, who are producing Shamshera, also recently released a statement addressing the leka. According to an IANS report, YRF called the leak ‘unfortunate’ and revealed that they had wanted to ‘guard’ Ranbir’s look until the film's trailer was released. The makers also added that they would now have to ‘rejig’ their entire plan leading up to the film’s trailer launch. More updates are expected from the production banner in the coming days.

The upcoming film also stars Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor in prominent roles. Interestingly, Ranbir was last seen in the 2018 film Sanju, which was a biopic based on Sanjay’s life.

Shamshera will be released in theatres on July 22, 2022.
