Ramesh Aravind's return to the silver screen as the mastermind detective/cop Shivaji Surathkal has been yielding positive results for the team involved. The box office results of the film are yet to be divulged but the word-of-mouth publicity, particularly on social media, has been quite encouraging. Along with Ramesh Aravind's central performance, the audiences have showered praise for the well-balanced narrative which gives equal importance to the main mystery and also the emotional core of the film.

Shivaji Surathakal 2: The Mysterious Case of Maayavi takes off a couple of years after the concluding events of the first instalment which released in 2020. Unlike that film, which was intimately set in a resort hotel in an eerie little called Ranagiri, the sequel has the ace cop travel back and forth across Karnataka as he tries his mighty best to apprehend a psychopathic serial killer. Simultaneously, Shivaji Surathkal is forced to tackle the demons of his past and also protect the small family that now surrounds him.

As the social media public verdict suggests, audiences are impressed by the tactful handling of these two main aspects of the film with Ramesh Aravind's performance holding it all together. "Though the director has failed in very minute parts, most of the film has been executed beautifully. Go watch it with your family," wrote one Twitter user.

Echoing these sentiments, another user wrote, "A good engaging thriller! Screenplay, editing, cinematography were impressive. Music makes scenes more impactful. Everyone acting was decent. But story of Vikrant Rona and SS2 was same, coincidence is both movies i watched in same theatre".

"#ShivajiSurathkal2 is a very nice movie, hope if it runs on more screens for number of weeks. Pretty faced paced movie throughout, you hardly get bored at any point," wrote another Twitter user.

While the facets highlighted by the audience do stand valid, OTTplay's own review observed that the screenplay was unable to weave the emotions and the main plot of the film in a seamless manner. While there are a few moments that do standout, the film in its entirety underwhelms: here's the full review of Shivaji Surathakal 2: The Mysterious Case of Maayavi:
