Dhanush's Sir has opened to a decent note in Telugu and Tamil. The social drama has been directed by Venky Atlrui who has only made love stories to date. When asked about this transition of his, Venky Atluri says "I hit the threshold of making loves stories with ‘Rang De’. I saw some incidents related to education in the news during the lockdown and wanted to touch on the education subject. Most of my education was in the 90s, so I brought in many experiences of my own".

Not many know that Venky Atluri tries his hand at acting and was seen in a few films. When asked why he got into the direction, he says "When I entered the industry there was no one to guide me, and never thought about direction. Though I had a passion for writing, I couldn’t express it to others. The acting job came easily but I was bashed for it."

Adding further he says "A few meetings with Ushakiron movies helped me make a decision outside acting. Then Dil Raju’s association helped me a lot with screenwriting. I learned from many people including Madhura Sridhar, P C Sreeram, and others. Venky Atluri has made films like Tholi Prema, Rang De, and Mr. Majnu in the past. But this is his first collab with a big star like Dhanush and that too for a bilingual production.

Venky Atluri is a soft-spoken director who gets his emotions right in all his films. He is yet to announce his next and says "I didn’t plan it to be honest. I have to ensure that Sir reaches a maximum number of people, and then I can work on my next project. I am planning to do something edgy this time. Sir has been co-produced by Trivikram and Sithara Entertainments.
