Son of Muthanna out on OTT: Director Srikanth Hunsur’s tale, which leant heavily on the emotional drama between a father and son, hits OTT two months after its theatrical release

Son of Muthanna, starring Pranam Devaraj in the lead, along with Rangayana Raghu, came out in mid September, after multiple delays. Directed by Srikanth Hunsur, the emotionally-charged film had received middling reviews and did not fare well at the box office. Nevertheless, it has managed to find its way to OTT only two months later and dropped on Amazon Prime Video as of November 14, 2025.

Emotionally heavy, but technically light

When the film came out, most of the reviews pointed out the predictable nature of the narrative, and technical shortcomings, but highlighted the poignant performances, especially the lead pair. The film, they reckoned, served as a message to modern audiences, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices and unconditional love of parents and the regret that comes from leaving important words unspoken.

The slow-burn drama Son of Muthanna had Pranam as Shivu and Rangayana Raghu as his father, Major Muthanna, a retired army man, with the duo sharing an affectionate relationship with each other. When young doctor-in-the-making Sakshi (Kushee Ravi) calls on Major Muthanna for his routine check-ups and bonds with Shivu, as a fallout, there’s a marked change in dynamics between father and son.

Tabla Nani, Suchendra Prasad, Sudha Belawadi, Dattanna, Giri Shivanna were also a part of Srikanth’s film, which had music by Sachin Basrur and cinematography by Skating Krishna. All the performances, especially Rangayana Raghu and Pranam, received wide-spread praise. Interestingly, at the film’s trailer launch, Kushee had said that although she had Son of Muthanna and Full Meals ready for release, since the success of her Kannada webs series Ayyana Mane, she’d not received a single good offer from Kannada cinema, but was getting work in neighbouring industries.

The film was also Pranam’s first Kannada release since his debut Kumari 21 F. The actor had done a Kannada-Telugu bilingual called Vairam, but that is yet to release.
