There's good news for Chiyaan Vikram fans. Streaming platform Sony LIV, which had announced the digital premiere of the film on September 28, has begun streaming of the film, a day in advance. The platform shared the news on its social media page with a promo from the film, and captioned it, "A series of crimes happening around the world, not with weapons but with 'Numbers'!! Who is he? And what is he up to? Watch the psychological thriller, #Cobra now on #SonyLIV #CobraOnSonyLIV @chiyaan @7screenstudio @AjayGnanamuthu @arrahman @RedGiantMovies_ @SrinidhiShetty7 (sic)." However, some users have commented on the tweet, stating that the film is not streaming yet. The film will be streaming in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

Cobra, directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu, is a psychological thriller, which stars Chiyaan Vikram in the lead, marking his first release in theatre after a span of three years. Vikram doubles up as a mathematician and high-profile assassin in the film and sports multiple get-ups as he shuttles across the world commiting crimes. The film marks K.G.F actress Srinidhi Shetty's debut in Tamil. The film boasts an ensemble cast which includes Roshan Mathew, Miya George, Mirnalini Ravi, Kaniha, Meenakshi Govindarajan, Sarjano Khalid and KS Ravikumar.

Cricketer-turned-actor Irfan Pathan makes his debut in films as an Interpol officer. Vikram had earlier stated that though Irfan Pathan was completely new to acting, he picked up the nuances pretty fast and pulled off a decent performance in the film. The film has music by AR Rahman, cinematography by Harish Kannan and editing by Bhuvan Srinivasan. Cobra was bankrolled by Seven Screen Studio and after the film opened to negative reviews at the box office, the makers decided to trim the runtime by 20 minutes. However, the film failed to set the cash registers ringing. The satellite rights of Cobra have been bagged by Kalaignar TV.
