Known for delivering iconic films such as Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Hum Saath-Saath Hain and Vivah, filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya feels that his career as a film director does not make sense economically.

The director is all set for the release his new film, Uunchai, which stars Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan. The film is a deviation from Sooraj's brand of films, as it celebrates friendship and is centered on a mountain climbing trip. Family sagas have, so far, been a signature film of his Rajshri Productions.

At the recent trailer launch event of Uunchai, Sooraj was asked if he is attemptign to revamp his career by trying a new kind of film, with Uunchai.

Sooraj replied, "If you look at my career as a film director, it does not make any sense economically. I mean, I have directed just 7 films in 35 years! I did not wish to make films as a businessman; I wanted to be a writer and that is why I started working. But then, yes, whatever film I made out of passion, became a blockbuster. That was not the plan — the success was not the plan. It was the love that I received from the audience. So, after getting everything without even asking, but by following my gut, I now don't want to compromise on anything."

He added, "I also do not want to make any other kind of film other than family entertainers, because mujhe kuch aur nahi aata hai. I feel responsible to provide entertainment to those who Rajshri's films. People love me for making a film like Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! I want to spread more love and joy with such films."

Uunchai, produced by Rajshri Productions, also marks 75 years as one of the old and iconic production houses of the country. Directed by Sooraj Barjatya, the film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sarika, Neena Gupta, Anupam Kher, Parineeti Chopra and Danny Danzonpa, among others. It is slated to release theatrically on November 11.
