Kumbalangi Nights actor Soubin Shahir’s latest film Romancham has been postponed, just two days prior to its initially-announced release date. The movie, which was to be an October 14 theatrical release, is a horror-comedy, starring Soubin, Arjun Ashokan and Chemban Vinod Jose.

The makers announced that the film has deferred its release, owing to technical reasons. Over the past few weeks, the team has been working overtime to ensure that all post-production work on the movie is complete and that it could be ready for its release. However, the team decided to postpone the film. The team is yet to announce the new date of release.

This is Soubin’s second film to be shifted after Sidharth Bharathan’s Djinn, which had announced its release date a few months ago. The movie is yet to hit theatres. Romancham, meanwhile, is produced by Ambili and Guppy filmmaker Johnpaul George along with Soubin and cinematographer Girish Gangadharan. Composer Sushin Shyam also joined the film as its co-producer after watching its first cut, a few months ago.

Apart from the lead actors, the movie has a few relative newcomers playing pivotal roles. Sajin Gopan, Siju Sunny, Afzal P, Abin Bino, Jagadeesh and Jolly Chirayath are also part of the cast. It’s also the first horror-comedy in Malayalam to release in theatres. Set in 2007, the film revolves around a bunch of friends who experience a supernatural presence in the house they are sharing.

The movie’s director Jithu, who has also scripted the film, had said that he had taken inspiration from a few incidents that happened to him. Bengaluru is the setting of the film, which has Sanu Thahir as the cinematographer, National Award-winner Banglan as its production designer.

If the movie would have hit theatres on October 14, it would have had to clash with Anoop Menon’s political thriller Varaal and Shine Tom Chacko’s Vichithram, as well as Mammootty’s Rorschach, which is still running to packed houses.
