This is not the complete review of Sshhh season 2, with two more episodes yet to stream.
Twenty-year-old Shraddha is never too shy to learn and unlearn something, or even take her own route. That is what we get from she winging the winged eyeliner, while trying to learn it from a make-up tutorial. Keeping her relationship with fellow collegemate Adhik a secret, the duo plans to take the plunge and have sex for the first time. Shraddha sketches a fool-proof plan, and just as when things begin to get as per their schedule, an unexpected incidence gets on their way, making it a little harder for the young couple to get lucky.
Despite Kalla Kadhal not living up to its title apart from barely having the lovers keeping their relationship in secrecy, the segment aims to break the sanctity of virginity. The woman, here takes the lead, to orchestrate the plan. But even with a considerable length of time, Kalla Kadhal does not flesh out the two characters than being a children left lost at a candystore. Beyond the playfulness, Adhik being shown as a man who still exhibits immaturity in case of protection, feels a little too jarring and less entertaining. Towards the end, even when Shraddha’s parents sit down with her to have the conversation, it feels the segment goes back to strike everything it strived for telling.

Even as the technical making comes across neat, Kalla Kadhal needed a concentrated writing and focussed idea to tell. Whether it is about on how parents should sit down their children to talk about adult matters, pre-marital sex, or young adults taking the liberty to enjoy their newfound adulthood, Kalla Kadhal could have been better.
Gigolo, an industry which is lesser known, is marked by its gender. Male escorts, social companions or call boys they say. When Vetri’s (Vetri) newly found app which serves as a mating platform for dogs, go under loss, he connects with his old batchmate who seems to be doing off wealthy. It so happens that the latter is a gigolo himself along with his friends, servicing their lady clients who come to bars. This sets off Vetri to try his hand into being one, as he tries to woo a ‘unicorn client’ (Vedhika) who seems to be drowned in melancholy.
Reversing the lens, from that of prostitution, an industry which has targeted women, Gigolo had opportunities aplenty to set the world. But its lethargic writing and even more so in staging, the segment seldom feels it wants to address anything that is considered taboo. When Vetri approaches Vedhika who plays the unicorn client, it deviates into an emotional exchange of stories, and the segment segues into something that doesn’t come within the purview of this plot. Of course it has some moments to describe how and when men and women feel the need to be intimate, but the underexplored arcs are aplenty.
