Dinesh Vijan is creating a world of horror comedies that are rooted in Indian folktales. Stree 2 has been prioritized to release first, which is a change in the original plan. A source close to the production of these films states Vijan and Amar Kaushik, who are curating this horror-comedy cinematic universe, are always seeking to give the viewers new and refreshing content. They do this through upcoming eccentric movies that are all connected, aiming to create a unique domain of comedy and crossovers that also explore a variety of contrasting themes. The source continues that the makers are very committed to the project, having planned to present the future characters in such a way that requires Stree 2 to take priority.

The source refutes previously reported claims that Munjha is a prequel to Stree and that it also stars actress Shraddha Kapoor. The film, entirely separate from Stree, will be directed by Marathi filmmaker Aditya Sarpotdar and will also kickstart within the next two to three months. At the same time, the Ayushmann Khurrana and Samantha starrer is currently in the scripting stage and will only commence in the second half of 2023.

The source talks of how threads are being kept open in every film on purpose, so as to enable the crossover, using the example of how Stree characters were introduced in Bhediya’s climax.

The producer inaugurated this horror comedy world in 2018 with Stree, starring Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee. He followed it up with Janhvi Kapoor's Roohi, and the monster comedy that stars Varun Dhawan is the most recent addition. Bhediya was supposed to be followed by Munjha and Ayushmann Khurrana and Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s vampire film, however, the Stree world has been reopened instead. The current plans have Vijan giving Stree 2 priority over anything else.

The pre-production for Stree 2 has begun and shooting will commence in March 2023.
