Two minutes and 20 seconds into the trailer of actor-filmmaker JP Thuminad’s Kannada debut directorial Su from So, there is a shot that has convinced audiences that Raj B Shetty will also be seen in the film. The actor-director has maintained that his contribution is limited to being producer and lyricist, but speculation is that the shot of a leg of what appears to be a sari-clad person is Raj.

Amused at this, Raj vehemently denies the rumour, but adds that there will be a lot of surprise elements in the film, besides what has been shown in the trailer. “That’s definitely not my leg, but it’s an element that’s created curiosity. There are several surprise elements in this film,” he says. Su from So, as the trailer revealed is the short form of Sulochana from Someshwar. So, one of the major mysteries is, of course, the identity of Sulochana.

Set in a quaint village in Mangaluru, the film follows a bunch of villagers and how they deal with a major incident – one of them being possessed, following a strange knock on the door in the wee hours of the morning. As per the trailer, it seems that JP Thuminad’s Ashok is the one who’s possessed and needs exorcism. But is something supernatural really at play or is he taking the mickey out of the villagers?

Su from So is set for theatrical release on July 25. While Raj is unsure about the film’s box office prospects, given the current environment of audiences shunning Kannada cinema, his promise is that his team has delivered a good film. “The effort is to maintain the trust that audiences have in the team that we will consistently make good cinema. Su from So is not only a personal favourite at the moment, but it is also a film that will entertain audiences wholeheartedly,” he says.
