Su from So, the latest production venture of actor-filmmaker Raj B Shetty, is the directorial debut of actor JP Thuminad, better known for his roles in Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side B and Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye. A popular Tulu theatre artiste, JP Thuminad plays the lead in the film, while Shaneel Gautham is seen in a pivotal role – Ravi Anna.

“JP has written the characters in his story based on people he’s seen and grown up with back in his hometown. My character, Ravi anna, is the kind of guy who inspires the youngsters in that village, while the elderly see him as someone who can get things done swiftly and efficiently. For an artiste like me, playing Ravi anna is a lifetime opportunity,” said Shaneel.

The actor adds that he’s been doing a bunch of supporting characters in his career so far. “But the fact that this team had the confidence that I could pull off this character means a lot.” says Shaneel, who was put through a bunch of workshops to get into the skin of the character.

The beauty of Su from So, according to the actor is that when audiences see the film, they will relate to all the characters in the story. “This film will evoke a sense of nostalgia in every member of the viewing audience,” he says, adding that unlike earlier films from the banner, Su from So is not subtle and has caricature characters, who are loud and exaggerated in their mannerisms. “All the characters in the film have a comic book feel to them,” he adds.

Su from So officially releases in theatres across Karnataka on July 25, in the run-up to which the team conducted paid premiere shows in Mangaluru and Shivamogga, with Mysuru and Bengaluru on July 23 and 24. So far, the feedback from the premiere shows has been supremely positive, with Shaneel’s Ravi anna being called out as one of the best in the film.
