In the past few years, National Award-winner Suraj Venjaramoodu has been going from strength to strength and proving how versatile an actor he is. In his next film Jana Gana Mana, which will release on April 28 in theatres, he plays a cop and will be seen sharing screen space with Prithviraj Sukumaran again after Driving Licence.

Talking at a press meet on Thursday in Kochi, Suraj said that he plays an assistant police commissioner in the movie, directed by Dijo Jose Antony. The actor had also played a motor vehicle inspector in Driving Licence.

Prithviraj, who was also part of the event, however, said fans would be disappointed if they went in expecting combination scenes involving himself and Suraj’s characters throughout Jana Gana Mana. “This is a different type of story and in fact, both our characters sort of end up in the lives of others,” he said.

The superstar also said that it’s wrong to say that both actors will be competing with each other in terms of performance in the movie. “Actors can’t compete against each other, they complement each other. For instance, in Driving Licence, we discussed with each other on how the scene will be, understood ourselves and then performed,” said Prithviraj.

Suraj, meanwhile, who started out doing comedy role in Malayalam has lately been playing strong character roles. “I want to do comedy but after movies such as Action Hero Biju, I have been getting more of serious characters and I can choose only from the offers that come to me. But humour is my life force, it’s what I like the most,” he said.

Jana Gana Mana, which also has Mamta Mohandas, Dhruvan, Vincy Aloshius and Shari, will be released in four languages – Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada – in theatres worldwide on April 28.
