Tamil actor Suriya’s recent public appearance as he headed to attend the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) match has sparked buzz online. Netizens have especially taken note of his 'Singam moustache', with some saying that 'Durai Singam' is back, while certain others are wondering if it is his new look for his upcoming film Suriya47 with director Jithu Madhavan.

Why is Suriya’s latest look going viral

Suriya, who was last seen in the Tamil film Retro, has joined hands with Malayalam director Jithu Madhavan, who is best known for Fahadh Faasil-starrer Aavesham. And when Suriya turned up at the airport on January 19 ahead of the ISPL match, fans were quick to notice his handlebar moustache, popularly sported by his character cop 'Durai Singam' from the hit Singam movies. He was headed to watch the Chennai Singams’ match with the Ahmedabad Lions.

As the Ghajini actor is currently working on Suriya 47, fans were quick to connect the dots and declared that Jithu Madhavan was probably planning a Singam-like look for the star in the upcoming film. There were comments of Suriya as a Badass Fun Cop' 'Looking Forward', 'Singam arrived in style' and 'Jithu Madhavan fanboy tribute'.

For the unversed, Suriya starred in the 2010 film as sub-inspector Durai Singam, an honest cop. The film helmed by Hari became a hit and led to two more sequels. It was also remade in Hindi as Singham with Ajay Devgn playing the lead role of the cop.

Who are the actors in Suriya 47

Suriya plays the lead role of a cop in Jithu Madhavan’s film. Malayalam actress Nazriya Nazim is said to play the female lead. The upcoming Tamil film also features another Malayalam actor, Naslen in a key role. Naslen was last seen in the blockbuster Lokah, while Nazriya’s last film was Sookshmadarshini in 2024. Aavesham composer Sushin Shyam has been roped in for Suriya47 as well. Suriya47 is yet to announce a release date but the upcoming Tamil film has already been listed on Netflix's slate for 2026. The Suriya film will drop on the platform after its theatrical run.

Suriya has two more films Karuppu and Suriya 46 also in the pipeline. Suriya 46 stars Mamitha Baiju, who is also part of the much-anticipated Tamil film Jana Nayagan, which has been caught in censor issues.
