Suriya's critically-acclaimed film, Jai Bhim, which had a direct OTT release on Amazon Prime Video last year, owing to the pandemic, will be screened in a theatre in Trivandrum on the occasion of Suriya's birthday (July 23). A video of Lijimol Jose, who played one of the lead characters in the film, wishing Suriya fans has surfaced on the internet. In the video, she is seen saying that the film will be releasing in theatre on the occasion of Suriya's birthday. "It was everyone's wish to see Jai Bhim in theatres and I am glad that some of you are going to experience the film in theatres." She also wished fans to have a fantastic birthday bash.

The legal drama is based on a true incident which took place in 1993, which involved a case fought by Justice K Chandru. Suriya plays Advocate Chandru in the film, while Lijimol Jose plays Sengeni and Manikandan plays Rajakannu. The plot follows the story of a woman from the Irula tribe, whose husband becomes the victim of custodial torture by the police and eventually, goes missing. The film explores police bias and violence against marginalised communities.

Jai Bhim is directed by TJ Gnanavel, and the supporting cast includes Prakash Raj, Rajisha Vijayan, Rao Ramesh, Thamizh and Sibi Thomas to name a few. Sean Roldon has scored the music for the film. Cinematography was by SR Kathir and editing was handled by Philomin Raj. The film was bankrolled by Suriya's home banner 2D Entertainment. The film received universal acclaim from critics and audience alike and had even made it to the long-list of 94th Academy Awards. The Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had released the list of the 276 films that were eligible for the 94th Academy Awards and Jai Bhim was one among them. However, it was not shortlisted.
