After winning hearts with her outstanding performance in the crime thriller series Aarya, Sushmita Sen is coming back with another show. In the upcoming web-series "Taali," Sushmita Sen will play transgender activist Gauri Sawant.

Gauri Sawant's public interest litigation (PIL) led to a landmark decision from the Supreme Court in 2014 that acknowledged the transgender community as the third gender. Gauri is currently serving as the Director of Sakhi Char Chowghi that helps transgender people and people with HIV/AIDS. She was earlier the brand ambassador of Election Commission in Maharashtra.

The series is directed by Marathi filmmaker Ravi Jadhav, and its script is written by Kshitij Patwardhan, Amol Udgirkar, and Edwin Desouza. Shreegauri Sawant, played by Sushmita Sen, is the series' title character. It is created by Arjun Singgh Baren and Kartik D. Nishandar. Along with Afeefa Nadiadwala, they are serving as producers.

The series' makers have not yet specified when it will be released. It is being produced for the OTT platform, Jio Cinema. According to reports, the premiere will happen in May or June 2023.

The series has been in the news for weeks, but a poster served as the official announcement. Sushmita Sen unveiled a poster of the transgender activist Gauri Sawant on October 6, 2022. Sharing the first look, she wrote, "Taali - बजाऊँगी नहीं, बजवाऊँगी !

#firstlook as #ShreegauriSawant

Directed by national award-winning filmmaker Ravi Jadhav, Gauri's significant life will be explored in "Taali," beginning with her early years, her transition, and her part in redefining the transgender movement in India.
