The Tamil Nadu Health and Family Welfare Department has cleared actress Nayanthara and her husband, director Vignesh Shivan in the probe against violating the surrogacy law. The three-member inquiry committee has stated that the Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kadhal couple has not violated any law. The committee found out that the couple had registered their marriage on March 11, 2016 and that they had received a letter from their family physician regarding surrogacy in 2020. However, the physician is said to have not been reachable as the doctor had moved to another country. The agreement for surrogacy is said to have been signed in November 2021.

The committee also stated that the age of the intending couple (Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan) and the surrogate mother fulfilled the criteria laid down by the ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) and adhered to the rules related to surrogacy. However, the government has issued a notice to the hospital that treated the surrogate mother as they 'did not maintain proper documents' related to the couple and the surrogate mother and asked why its license should not be cancelled in this regard.

After years of dating each other, Nayanthara and Vignesh, got married in a high-profile ceremony in Chennai in June. Earlier, this month, Vignesh Shivan announced that the couple has had twins. He wrote in an Instagram post, “Nayan & Me have become Amma & Appa. We are blessed with Twin Baby Boys. All Our prayers, our ancestors’ blessings combined with all the good manifestations made, have come 2gethr in the form Of 2 blessed babies for us. Need all ur blessings for our Uyir & Ulagam.
