There was a time when remakes used to be a very safe bet for any actor. Even today, there are a few stars who do remakes and make them successful. But with the arrival of OTT's, remake culture has gone down. As the original is already available on so many OTT platforms in multiple languages, the response to these remakes are not that great.

The latest example is Akshay Kumar's Selfiee. Despite being made on a high budget and having stars like Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi, the film has bombed at the box office with below par collections. Selfie is the remake of the Malayalam hit film Driving License and was remade by Karan Johar and Akshay in Hindi.

Not many know that the remake rights of the film were bought by a noted production house and they were planning to make the film with Ram Charan and Ravi Teja as the leads. But after seeing the response to the Hindi version, they have decided to back off and the project will never take off for now.

The makers feel that the subject matter suited perfectly for the Telugu remake and were also hoping that Ram Charan and Ravi Teja would do justice to the characters. But now they have changed their mind and do not want to take any risk. The way the Hindi audience has rejected this film has even shocked the trade pundits who were expecting at least a proper opening.
