Director-turned actor Basil Joseph, who had appeared in a cameo appearance in the recently released Tamil film Parasakthi, is expected to join the cast of the upcoming Tamil film Thalaivar 173 starring Rajinikanth.

Basil Joseph to share screen space with Rajinikanth?

Actor and filmmaker Basil Joseph, who was last seen in the Tamil film Parasakthi, is reportedly said to have joined the cast of the upcoming Tamil biggie Thalaivar 173. If the reports carry truth, the Malayalam star will be playing the role of Rajinikanth’s son in the flick, marking his first onscreen collaboration with the superstar. If that is not it, it is also speculated that Priyanka Arul Mohan is also part of Thalaivar 173. However, the official confirmation on the castings is yet to be announced by the makers.

It is to be noted that Thalaivar 173 is written and directed by filmmaker Cibi Chakaravarthy, who is one film old, and had made Don with Sivakarthikeyan. Given Priyanka has already starred in Don, it is highly likely that she is cast in Thalaivar 173 as well.

Thalaivar 173 was to be directed by Sundar C. However, the filmmaker backed out due to reasons not known. Subsequently, Cibi bagged the opportunity. With Kamal Haasan producing the film, the Rajinikanth-starrer is slated to go on floors soon. Thalaivar 173, which is touted to be a family-oriented story, is scheduled to release for Pongal in January 2027.
