While Tovino Thomas’ had three releases before Thallumaala, the Khalid Rahman directorial surpassed that total revenue of Vaashi, Dear Friend and Naradhan on its first day and is now on the verge of becoming the actor's first-ever film to earn Rs 50 crore in worldwide box office gross.

The movie, which also has Kalyani Priyadarshan, Shine Tom Chacko, Lukman Avaran, Johnny Antony and Swati Das, hit theatres along with Kunchacko Boban’s Nna Thaan Case Kodu, which has already crossed the Rs 50 crore in the box office, according to its makers.

According to reports, Thallumaala has grossed Rs 46 crore and counting at the box office. The movie is going strong in its fourth week, with Nna Thaan Case Kodu being its main competition. Basil Joseph’s new release Palthu Janwar doesn’t seem to have posed much of a hurdle for the Tovino-starrer, which might take a hit next week when three Onam releases – Kunchacko’s Ottu, Siju Wilson’s Pathonpathaam Noottaandu and Biju Menon’s Oru Thekkan Thallu Case – hit theatres.

In an earlier interview with us, Tovino had also talked about the criticism the superhit film had received. “I heard a lot of people say that Thallumaala didn’t have a story. But it has and that’s the reason the movie became enjoyable. In fact, it has more depth than what we have shown onscreen and that’s something I believe that the audience can guess and understand. If you say that it didn't have any emotions, how can you explain that kind of reaction that the climax sequence got in theatres that I had visited,” he said.

The actor is also positive that when the movie releases on OTT later this month, it would be lapped up by audiences across India. Thallumaala is an all-out entertainer revolving around a group of friends, who keep getting into brawls at pivotal points in their lives.
