The second season of Telugu OTT platform aha’s popular music show Telugu Indian Idol is coming to a close. Hosted by Hemachandra with singers Karthik, Geetha Madhuri and composer S Thaman as its judges, Telugu Indian Idol 2 is among the most-watched titles on the platform. The semi-final round of the show was held this week in the presence of composer Devi Sri Prasad.

The show’s youngest singer Ayyan Pranathi was eliminated this weekend. The contestants who’ve made it to the finale are Soujanya Bhagavathula, Jayaram, Karthikeya, Lasyapriya and Sruthi Nanduri. All the singers in this weekend’s episodes rendered some of Devi Sri Prasad’s finest numbers over two decades - each singer had to perform two songs continuously.

Despite having to exit the show, the 14-year-old Ayyan Pranathi received a huge surprise from S Thaman. The latter confirmed that she’d be singing a number for Sreeleela in Boyapati Sreenu’s next starring Ram Pothineni. Both the director and the actor have given their nod for Thaman’s choice. “I am having a release after a long time with Boyapati garu’s film and they approved my decision to rope in Pranathi for a song. You’ll go places for sure,” the composer told Pranathi.

That’s not all, Thaman has given a playback singing opportunity for another contestant - Soujanya Bhagavathula, nicknamed Soujanya Ghoshal in the show for her mellifluous voice. “It was so great to record a song in the studio in Chennai. I was worried if my first song for Arjun Reddy would be the last in my career but this opportunity gave me a lot of confidence in my abilities,” she shared.

The highlight of this weekend’s episode was the camaraderie between composers Thaman and Devi Sri Prasad, how they appreciated each other’s works sans any hint of insecurity. Devi Sri Prasad shared many backstories surrounding his songs like Nenu Nenuga Lene, Musugu Veyyoddu, Gongura Thota Kaada, Super Machi to name a few. The composer’s next big release is Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2.
