Days ahead of Thamma’s October 21 theatrical release, Rashmika Mandanna says that there will be no comparison between her film and Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra

In late August, when Kalyani Priyadarshan’s Malayalam film Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra released and was well received, and subsequently dubbed in other languages, including Hindi, there was narrative that there was a strong similarity to the Hindi horror comedy, Stree. Hindi audiences did not take much fancy to Lokah, but now that the next instalment, Thamma, in the horror comedy universe of the makers, which includes Stree, Bhediya, Munjya and Stree 2, is set for release and Rashmika Mandanna is rumoured to be playing a vampire, the obvious question is if there’s a similarity to Kalyani’s film.

Neatly side-stepping the speculation about her being a vampire in Thamma, Rashmika said that she genuinely enjoyed her “good pal” Kalyani’s film and the world that they created in Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra. “It was a different world altogether and knowing where we are coming from and what we have in store in Thamma, I can promise that it is going to be a different experience. You can’t put both the films together. I understand where the question is coming from, but tomorrow, when audiences walk out of theatres, it is going to be a new conversation,” she told Galatta Plus.
Rashmika adds that while she has been a part of action-packed films, until Thamma, she’d not dabbled with stunts. “Thamma was my entry into the action space, but it’s still a lot less compared to this film I’m doing called Myssa, where I am doing intense physical stunts. There is a marked difference, but with Thamma, I just fell in love with all the little bits of action I could do, the cable work, etc.” she said.
The actress says that she did not have a reference as to how to play her character. “It was new space for me because I did not know what to do, how much would be okay. I’d walk on to the set and surrender completely to the director and the cast and crew, who supported me and took it forward,” said Rashmika.
