When director Abhinav Sunder Nayak cast Vineeth Sreenivasan as a narcissistic lawyer with no virtues in Mukundan Unni Associates, majority of the audience hailed it as an inspired choice. In debutant filmmaker Saheed Arafath’s Thankam too, Vineeth seems to be playing a grey character, from what the trailer hints at.

The movie, which is touted to be a crime drama, seems to have Vineeth essaying the role of a jewellery worker who takes off with gold and has characters of Biju Menon and Vineeth Thattil David in pursuit along with the cops who join in much later. Marathi actor and National Award-winner Girish Kulkarni essays the role of a police officer in the film, which also has Aparna Balamurali.

Scripted by Syam Pushkaran, the movie is set to hit theatres on January 26. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Vineeth said working with the team of Thankam has been a learning experience from start till the end.

“I got to understand why actors perform so well in their films,” said the actor. “There is hardly any strain for actors on their sets. There’s no need to learn the script because Syam would keep talking to us about the story and the characters, and by the time those discussions are over, the dialogues we have to say and the emotions we have to portray are etched in our minds. All we have to do then is just to say those lines.”

The movie has composer Bijibal, cinematographer Gautham Sankar, editor Kiran Das and art director Gokul Das as part of its crew. Thankam was initially supposed to have Fahadh Faasil and Joju George as part of the cast, but the duo dropped out afte the shoot was delayed due to the pandemic lockdown.

Fahadh will be co-producing the film with Maheshinte Prathikaram director Dileesh Pothan and Syam, under their banner Bhavana Studios.
