The political propaganda drama hit the theatres on September 5. The Bengal Files grossed Rs 16.79 crore from India, and Rs 23.15 crore at the box office worldwide, as per tracker Sacnilk. The movie opened with a below-average numbers. After making Rs 1.75 crore on its first day, the numbers kept fluctuating, leading to collecting only Rs 11.25 crore within first week of its release.
Week two went shocking as The Bengal Files minted only Rs 4.5 crore, while in week three the collection was Rs 1.01 crore. After eight weeks of theatrical run, the movie's total India collection stands at Rs 16.79 crore and worldwide Rs 23.15 crore.
The Vivek Agnihotri-directorial once again tries to uncover the history of communal violence in West Bengal, specifically focusing on the 1946 Direct Action Day and the subsequent Noakhali riots, and interestingly connects these two events to a fictional present-day investigator's missing person case that exposes a network of corruption. The narrative is told through the eyes of the investigator and his work, while also featuring parallel flashbacks to the partition-era violence in India, shaping the region.
For those who don't know yet, Vivek Agnihotri's movie was banned for the theatrical release in West Bengal back in September. The filmmaker even posted a six-minute video on X (formerly Twitter) where he's seen requesting the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, to allow The Bengal Files release.
