The Bhootnii OTT release date: Here's when and where you can stream Sanjay Dutt-Mouni Roy's horror-comedy

The Bhootnii hits ZEE5 on July 18 after its theatrical run. The horror-comedy stars Sunny Singh, Mouni Roy, and Sanjay Dutt, and blends supernatural folklore with humour in a college setting.

On July 18, 2025, the horror-comedy The Bhootnii will release on OTT on ZEE5 (OTTplay Premium), following a brief theatrical run earlier this year. Sidhaant Sachdev wrote and directed the film, while Deepak Mukut and Sanjay Dutt produced it. It was released in theatres on May 1, 2025. Sunny Singh, Mouni Roy, Palak Tiwari, Nikunj Lotia, and Aasif Khan round out the ensemble cast that includes Dutt.

Haunting tale set in fictional college

Set in a made-up college in Delhi called St. Vincent's, the plot revolves around a "Virgin Tree"—a "supposed love charm for desperate romantics, particularly on Valentine's Day"—and the bizarre occurrences that surround it. But a student always dies in a mysterious way on the night before Holika Dahan. Folklore claims that the spectre of a vengeful woman haunts the tree, stealing an annual soul.

A broken-hearted student named Shantanu, played by Sunny Singh, visits the tree in the hopes of finding love again after a breakup. The ghost named Mohabbat, portrayed by Mouni Roy, becomes dangerously enamoured with Shantanu after hearing his heartfelt plea. The story intensifies as Mohabbat begins to terrorise anyone who attempts to separate Shantanu from her. The college consults Baba, a paraphysicist and former student (Sanjay Dutt), to solve the supernatural dilemma. Baba discovers Mohabbat's tragic history and her link to the institution with the help of strange devices and a carefree manner.

Release delays

Due to pending VFX work, The Bhootnii was delayed from its original April 18, 2025, theatre release date. The industry was only somewhat supportive of its eventual release on May 1. Dutt was one of several people who made a public plea to theatregoers and owners for increased screenings and attendance.

Critical and public reception was mixed to good, despite the film's low budget and limited release. Many people were impressed by Dutt's performance, and they were also complimentary of Palak Tiwari and newcomer Nikunj Lotia, better known as BeYouNick. Many viewers categorised the picture as more comedy than horror, yet they particularly praised the dialogue delivery and humour. People naturally began comparing The Bhootnii to Stree finding it entertaining despite not quite measuring up.

The film is anticipated to reach a broader audience with its digital release on ZEE5. On July 18, those who were unable to see it in theatres will be able to watch it online without leaving their homes.
