The Devil actor Vinay Gowda’s next has him play real-life gangster Srirampura Kaththi

Vinay Gowda’s next release after The Devil is Balaramana Dinagalu, led by Vinnod Prabhakar. Directed by Aa Dinagalu fame KM Chaitanya, the film is based on a true story.

In February last year, director KM Chaitanya had spoken to OTTplay about his return to the gangster genre with his next directorial, Balaramana Dinagalu. Like his earlier Aa Dinagalu this one too would be based on a true story set in 80s and 90s Bengaluru. Inspired by the stories of Agni Sridhar and Ravi Belagere, he developed a script about one character Balarama, a notorious rowdy-sheeter, who had a meteoric rise in the city’s underworld and then disappeared. Vinnod Prabhakar plays the title character, while Bigg Boss Kannada Season 11 fame Vinay Gowda has a pivotal role.

Vinay, who is also a part of Darshan Thoogudeepa’s The Devil, which releases on December 11, says that Balaramana Dinagalu will be his next release. “It is a film that I am eagerly looking forward to. It provides a recap of what Bengaluru and its underworld used to be in the 80s and 90s, which will be interesting for younger generations. I have played a lot of negative characters in my career, but this one will be unique,” he told Filmy First.

Which real-life character is Vinay Gowda playing in Balaramana Dinagalu

Considering that Balaramana Dinagalu is based on a true story, which rowdy-sheeter is Vinay playing in the film? “I play a character called Sriramapura Kaththi,” is all that the actor says. A quick internet search reveals that this is a character, Krishnoji Rao, also called Srirampura Kitty, who was associated with underworld figures like MP Jairaj, Kotwal Ramachandra, among others. Kaththi, who had a violent reputation, killed Balarama in 1995 inside the Central Jail. Roughly 10 years later, he was hacked to death by an armed gang.

Besides Balaramana Dinagalu, Vinay is also a part of Kiccha Sudeep’s next, Billa Ranga Baashaa, which is currently on an extended schedule break, as the Kannada superstar was focusing on finishing up his film, Mark, which releases in theatres on December 25, 2025.
