The Devil on OTT: According to sources, director-producer Prakash Veer has struck a satellite and digital rights deal, The film, which released in theatres in December, has ended its theatrical run

Darshan Thoogudeepa’s last theatrical release, The Devil, had come out without a satellite or digital deal in place. Both the star-led films that come out 2 weeks later, Kiccha Sudeep’s Mark and the Shivarajkumar, Upendra and Raj B Shetty led 45 have made their way to OTT already. But then it was heard that The Devil would also begin streaming shortly and that the makers have managed a deal after all.

Sources had earlier told OTTplay that director-producer Prakash Veer was working towards giving Darshan fans something to cheer for the actor’s upcoming birthday, what with him still in jail in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. An OTT outing for The Devil around the actor’s birthday, which falls on February 16. And now we hear that the platform has also been decided. According to sources, The Devil has been picked up by Sun Network for both satellite and digital rights. As such, The Devil is expected to drop on Sun NXT on or before February 16, 2026.

The Devil was Darshan’s second film that released in his absence. The film’s initial theatrical business was phenomenal, but once the word-of-mouth spread about the mediocrity of the content, footfalls fell drastically. The film, according to trackers, has grossed in the vicinity of Rs 35 cr and failed to recover its production budget.

The Devil was meant to be in theatres in December 2024, but could not meet this deadline when Darshan was arrested in June of that year. He was granted bail only by the end of October 2024 first on medical grounds and then general bail, but resumed work on the film only in February 2025. By July he had wrapped up the principal photography and weeks later, in August, his bail was cancelled and sent back to jail to stand trial in the case.
