The Devil trailer: Darshan goes for style and substance in action-packed mass entertainer

D for Dhanush… no, Devil – he looks like a hero, but is a terror. That’s what director Prakash Veer is going for with Darshan in their upcoming film The Devil. The trailer of the much-awaited Darshan starrer dropped moments ago and while it seemed that Prakash was only looking at stylish presentation, there’s a hint of substance, with a potential power struggle and legal hassles too.

The trailer cut is, no doubt, good, and creates just enough intrigue in audiences. Ajaneesh Loknath’s BGM is adequate, although there are hints of the Black Panther beats occasionally. Prakash apparently had multiple versions of the trailer ready and finally went with one that had just the right elements to keep the actor’s fans happy. And with advance bookings for the film’s December 11 release to open in only a day, this trailer is just what they needed.

The film also stars Rachana Rai, Sharmiela Mandre, Huli Karthik, Gilli Nata, Chandu B Gowda, Mahesh Manjrekar, Achyuth Kumar and Vinay Gowda, among many others. The Devil is Prakash Veer’s second collaboration with Darshan that comes 8 years after their last film together, Tarak.
The filmmaker had broached the subject of The Devil back then with Darshan, and the actor is said to have liked the logline, which he then asked Prakash to develop. The script and screenplay have had several revisions over the years, to keep it up to date with changing times, the filmmaker has said.

The film, which went on floors in early 2024, was then stalled in June that year, when Darshan was arrested in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. While he got bail in November, he returned to the set only in March this year, working at breakneck speed to complete it. In fact, the actor managed to wind up all film related work days prior to his bail being cancelled by the Supreme Court.
The Devil is releasing in Darshan’s absence, with the trial expected to start later this month. His fans are looking at making the film’s release a big celebration.
