A Vice President who admits to have orchestrated the ‘terrorist attack’ on the British ship Courageous, to ensure the US submarine base in Scotland remains open, then becomes the President moments after her job seemed shaky. That’s where Season 2 of The Diplomat left off and Season 3 picks up – Grace Penn (Allison Janney) is now President, and ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell), who, not long ago was making a play for the post of Vice President, is now stuck with the knowledge that a terribly flawed woman is at the helm.

The popular political thriller returns for its third season on Netflix on October 16 with an 8 episode run. According to the official synopsis from the streamer, Hal’s (Rufus Sewell) campaign to land Kate the vice presidency continues. Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, an increasingly complicated friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and an unnerving bond with First Gentleman Todd Penn (Whitford).

The trailer of the show, which dropped on September 18, also hints at the new President being on the verge of doing something apocalyptically dumb, while Kate is tasked with keeping an eye on her. Kate’s not keen as she thinks its akin to walking around with a resume stapled on her forehead amid a constitutional crisis.

The Diplomat’s cast also includes David Gyasi as Austin Dennison, UK Foreign Secretary, Ali Ahn as Eidra Park, CIA station chief in London, Rory Kinnear as Nicol Trowbridge, UK prime minister, Ato Essandoh as Stuart Heyford, deputy chief of mission of the US embassy in London, among others. The show has already been renewed for a fourth season, so, yet another explosive finale can be expected on October 16.
