The Judgement on OTT: Diganth-Ravichandran led courtroom drama finally gets digital partner

The Judgement on OTT: More than a year after the Judgement, directed by Gururaj Kulkarni, hit theatres it will be available to stream. But there’s a catch…

V Ravichandran plays the lead in The Judgement

Gururaj Kulkarni, the producer of the Kannada psychological thriller Last Bus, had turned director with another thriller, Amruth Apartments, which he then followed up with the courtroom drama The Judgement. The film, led by Diganth Manchale and V Ravichandran released in May last year and had not made it to OTT so far. According to the latest buzz, though, The Judgement is likely to be available to audiences in India this week, as it has already made its way to a streaming platform, albeit for US and UK viewers only.

The Judgement is now on Amazon Prime Video, albeit on the store for rental only. It remains to be seen if the film will follow suit for Indian audiences too or if it will be available to stream for free to subscribers. The film also stars Meghana Gaonkar, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Dhanya Ramkumar, TS Nagabharana, Prakash Belawadi, among others, and features music by Anoop Seelin.

The Judgement: Seeking justice for an innocent man

On paper, the plot of The Judgement sounds interesting – a hot-shot prosecutor realizing that he’s sent an innocent man to jail for 20 years and then figuring out a way to get him the justice he’d denied him. In the execution of this story, though, Gururaj decided to go technical and crammed it with so much legalese that there was little to no room for entertainment.

Diganth played Anil an investment banker who becomes the primary suspect in the murder of a client, while Ravichandran was Govind, the lawyer who gets Anil a lengthy sentence. Once he realizes his mistake, Govind also notes that he cannot represent Anil and fight for his freedom, but what he can do is find a loophole that gives him wiggle room. He does so by connecting a new case to the old one, all of which is backed up by case studies that allow such procedures.
