Malayalam actor Sharaf U Dheen’s latest film, The Pet Detective had a decent run at the box office when it was released in theatres in October 2025. Also starring Anupama Parameswaran, the film is set to make its digital release on Zee5 via OTTplay Premium on November 28, 2025. The 2025 Malayalam film The Pet Detective, which released in theatres on October 16, opened to mixed reviews. But the word-of-mouth publicity for the comedy movie picked up over the days, ensuring that the Sharaf U Dheen-starrer had a decent run at the cinemas. Helmed by Praneesh Vijayan, The Pet Detective earned Rs 11.49 crore in worldwide box office collections, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

The Sharaf U Dheen-starrer did way better than actress Navya Nair’s police drama, Paathirathri, which also released in theatres on October 17, but had to settle for just Rs 2.32 crore in total collections, as per Sacnilk figures. Soubin Shahir plays the other key role in Paathirathri, which was helmed by Ratheena PT.

What’s The Pet Detective plot

A madcap comedy, The Pet Detective follows Tony Jose Aluka who seeks to bring out his sleuthing skills as he tries to impress the dad of his girlfriend, Kaikeyi. He joins his father’s detective firm, but has run-ins with criminals. Chaos unfolds as he gets entangled in more than a ‘pet case’. Sharaf U Dheen plays Tony, while Anupama Parameswaran is Kaikeyi.

The Pet Detective marked the reunion of Premam actors Sharaf U Dheen and Anupama Parameswaran. Though Sharaf U Dheen played a comparatively small role in the Nivin Pauly starrer, the scene with ‘Ras Al-Khaimahyile aa valiya veedu’ dialogue is popular to this day.

Other actors adding to the fun in The Pet Detective are Vinayakan, Vinay Forrt, Premalu actor Shyam Mohan and Joemon Jyothir.
