The 2024 Tamil film The Smile Man, featuring veteran actor Sarath Kumar in the lead role, debuted in theatres on Friday. The film’s post-theatrical streaming rights have been bagged by Aha Tamil, and it will be available for streaming after it finishes the theatrical run.

The Smile Man marks the 150th outing for Sarath Kumar, who comes with decades of experience in acting. The film is a crime thriller helmed by director duo Syam and Praveen. The Smile Man will begin to stream on Aha Tamil after completing the theatrical run. Subsequently, it will also be available on OTTplay Premium.
Apart from Sarathkumar, the film also stars Sri Kumar, Sijaa Rose, Ineya, George Maryan, Rajkumar, Kalaiyarasan, Kumar Natarajan, and Baby Azhiya. The Smile Man has been censored with a U/A certificate.
The Smile Man is about a senior cop who is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s condition. With only a year left for his memories to completely fade out, he takes up the case of a serial killer who has been scarring his victims' mouths to resemble a smile. The film's technical crew consists of music scored by Gavaskar Avinash with the story penned by Kamala Alchemis. Vikram Mohan has shot the film and San Lokesh has handled the edits.

Produced by Salildas, Aneesh Haridasan, and Anandan T, The Smile Man received a middling rating from OTTplay. “The Smile Man adds itself to one among the dozen serial killer stories that gets made as part of trend. With a non-coherent storytelling and distanced emotions, the film fails to neither resonate nor engross,” reads the review.
Sarath Kumar, meanwhile, is also part of the upcoming film Siddharth 40, helmed by Sri Ganesh. The film also stars Devyani, Meetha Ragunath, Chaithra Achar, and others.
