The stars have finally aligned! Indian Matchmaking season 2 to release on Netflix on THIS date

The stars seemed to have finally aligned for fans anxiously awaiting Indian Matchmaking’s return. It was announced that the reality show will return for another season soon, with Sima Taparia fulfilling her matchmaking duties yet again.

Netflix made the announcement on their official social media recently, also releasing first look images from the show’s new season. Along with Taparia, the photographs also give a glimpse of what’s in store for the couples in season two. Familiar faces from season one can be spotted in the photos. Sharing the post, Netflix wrote “Gets down on one knee and asks if there are plans for season 2 of Indian Matchmaking* THE ANSWER IS YES. SEEMA AUNTY AND INDIAN MATCHMAKING WILL RETURN FOR A SECOND SEASON”. The second season of the reality show will premiere on Netflix on August 10.

Taparia also shared the post as well. To celebrate the show’s return, the matchmaker also shared a voice clip of herself, where she is heard saying “Matchmaking is my passion, and it's a joy to share my work with audiences around the world for giving me lot of love and respect. Sima from Mumbai is back!”.

The reality series follows Taparia’s attempts as a marriage consultant to help Indian couples in the US and India to find prospective partners in marriage. The first season, which aired in 2020, had received a nomination at the 73rd Emmy Awards for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program. The show has reportedly also been renewed for a third season as well.

Although the show became popular, it was on the receiving end of criticism for some of the criteria used for finding matches, which many fans called ‘regressive’, ‘casteist’ and ‘classist’. The show has also inspired a plethora of memes, one in particular based on Taparia’s comment “Ultimately, my efforts are meaningless if the stars are not aligned”.
